The Church of St. John the Baptist is a Catholic church, part of the apostolic administration of Uzbekistan.
In 1915, Poles, Austrians and Hungarians began to stay in Samarkand. In the same year, permission was obtained for the construction of a Catholic church in Samarkand. The church designed by architect E. Nelle was built in 1916. During the Soviet era, the temple was closed and there was a sports hall in it.
In 1995, at the initiative of priest John Roloff, a Catholic parish was registered in Samarkad, to which the church of St. John the Baptist was transferred in 1997. On March 27, 1999, the consecration of the church took place.
